I added the formal element of a circle to my painting to disrupt the painterly marks and give me something really strong to play against. The large circles can be seen a holes to look though, or solid areas. They can be micro (tiny cellular forms) or macro (planets). In some paintings the circle is a solid disc in others it has all but disappeared. There is both the formal quality of the shape, that is in itself very satisfying, but also a myriad of interpretations that this simplest of forms conjures up.
