Useful Information

My teaching rates

My standard hourly teaching rate is £40 per hour. One-to-one sessions are booked and paid for 'by the hour'. One hour is the minimum bookable session. Additional time can be booked in 30 minutes sections, so you can book a 90min session for example, which would cost £60.

If you wish to book 4 or more  hours, either as separate classes or as a one day workshop, then there is a 10% discount on the overall cost. So for example, four one hour lessons would be reduced from £160 to £144.

Studio Location

My studio is located on Panman Lane, in the village of Holtby - approximately 5 miles from York. Holtby doesn't have any shops/pubs so please bring any refreshments with you. There is a small carpark on-site, though we recommend parking in the village and walking to the stuido, just a few meters up the road.

Please visit the ARNUP STUDIOS website for a map and further information.

The Studio &  Access

From Panman Lane, there is a gravel drive which then takes you to a grass path that leads through the garden to the studio. There is a single step into the building and then a further step inside that takes you into my studio. My studio is all on one level. There is a modern W.C/sink  in the building. The studio is light and airy, and heated in winter! It is a working space so there will be wet paintings and general studio materials out so please wear suitable clothing. My own work will be on view and you are welcome to look at what I'm working on. During a one-to-one lesson you get exclusive use of the studio under my instruction.

After we have chatted about what you would like your lesson/s to consist of, I will email you an overview and ask that you reply to that to confirm you are happy with the plan. Please make sure you are happy with what we plan for your session and don't be afraid to ask questions before you book!

Standard studio materials will be provided as part of your lesson/s at no extra cost. This includes (though not exclusively) drawing paper, painting paper, paints, charcoal, pencils, pastels, general 'tools' such as drawing boards, use of an easel and brushes. If you require more specific materials such as a canvases or paintings boards then you will be told of the cost when booking - you are of course welcome to bring along your own materials.

My availability varies though out the year. I tend to teach during the day time and on some Saturdays. Let me know your preferred days/ weeks and I will let you know which times I can offer.

Nobody enjoys a cancellation, but they do happen from time to time.

Payment for private lessons is in advance via bank transfer, unless an alternative method is agreed. Bookings can only be confirmed once payment has been made.

It is your responsibility to arrive on time for your class, so please check travel times. Please allow time to park (you may need to park in the village). If you are late it might not be possible to 'add on' time at the end, and you will still be charged for the full hour.

In the instance that I need to cancel a session, for whatever reason, you will be offered a full refund (if you have already paid) or, if you choose, I will re-book you a session at a later date.

If you need to cancel, for whatever reason, I can only offer a refund if you cancel at least one week before your lesson is scheduled. If you cancel within one week of your session I am afraid that I cannot offer a refund as it is unlikely that I will be able to rebook the session, and I will have already spent time planning your lesson and buying materials.

I may be able to reschedule your lesson if there is a suitable time slot available, but this remains at my discretion. Any rescheduled lessons must happen within 3 months of the original booking. Please get in touch as soon as you think you may need to cancel.

Anything Else..?

My aim is to combine real learning and the development of skills, with enthusiasm and joy. I want you to enjoy your lesson and leave feeling that you have achieved something. Whether you just need a lesson to boost your confidence before booking onto a group course, or you want a deep dive into a specific aspect of your practice, I am always excited to see where a lesson takes me - If you have any questions at all please don't hesitate to get in touch.
